As discussions, including on social media, on the purported role of the United States behind the Boeing jetliner going missing continue to swirl, Washington, through its embassy here, said that they were all "baseless conspiracy theories". The US Embassy here, in an email to the New Straits Times, said claims that MH370 was hidden somewhere in its island military base, Diego Garcia, were also wild allegations... Washington also addressed allegations that logs at Diego Garcia from March 8 to 10, had been wiped clean. "These reports are completely false. MH370 did not land in Diego Garcia. This is a baseless conspiracy theory."

Flight MH370, which disappeared more than five weeks ago en route to Beijing, is thought to have climbed to heights of 45,000ft - 10,000ft above its normal altitude - before plummeting to just below 5,000ft. Speaking to the SundayTimes, a source claimed: "It was being flown very low at very high speed. And it was being flown to avoid radar."

But the latest mishap follows a far more worrying discovery about one last year's leak. About 200 tons of water ended up flooding the basements beneath the complex, although the water didn't have a pathway to reach the ocean or leak out to any other areas, fortunately. The plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co., ordered the leakage to be removed as soon as possible, The Asahi Shimbun reports.

 

Russian Aircraft Flies Near U.S. Navy Ship in Black Sea [Gee, that wouldn't happen if USociopaths weren't in the Black Sea.] 14 Apr 2014 A Russian attack aircraft repeatedly flew near the USS Donald Cook in international waters in the Black Sea on April 12, a Pentagon spokesman said today. The USS Cook was patrolling in the western Black Sea when an unarmed Russian Su-24 Fencer attack aircraft repeatedly flew near the Navy ship, Army Col. Steve Warren told reporters. "The aircraft did not respond to multiple queries and warnings from Donald Cook, and the event ended without incident after approximately 90 minutes," Warren said. [USS Cook should be renamed USS Nosey Parker.]

 

CIA Boss John Brennan Meets With Ukraine Officials in Kiev 14 Apr 2014 CIA Director John Brennan has met face-to-face with officials in Kiev amid rising tensions between pro-Russian militants and Ukrainian forces in the eastern part of the country. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney confirmed Mr Brennan's weekend visit to the Ukrainian capital as part of his trip to Europe. Ousted Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has accused the CIA of encouraging Ukrainian authorities to conduct tactical operations - a claim the US agency denies.

 

US must explain CIA chief's Kiev visit: Lavrov 14 Apr 2014 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called for explanation from Washington over reports of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director's recent visit to Ukraine's capital city of Kiev. "We would like, in particular, to understand the meaning of these reports about CIA Director [John] Brennan's recent visit to Kiev," Lavrov said during a press conference in Moscow on Monday. He noted that the US government has so far failed to come up with "reasonable explanations" about the controversial visit during the weekend.

 

Kiev Proposes Joint Operation With UN Troops in Eastern Ukraine 14 Apr 2014 13:01 GMT: Ukraine's coup-empowered president, Aleksandr Turchinov, has proposed conducting a joint operation with UN peacekeeping forces in the east of the country, in a phone call with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Turchinov told Ban Ki-moon that Kiev's new authorities would welcome "if, with your help, there will be conducted a joint anti-terrorist operation in the east of the country. Then, specialists and observers will be able to confirm the legitimacy and legality of our actions," the press office of the Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party quoted Turchinov as saying. Ban Ki-moon said that Kiev could rely fully on help from the UN as its partner.

 

EU to expand sanctions against Russia, Ashton says 14 Apr 2014 The EU's sanctions against Russia are to be expanded with more people added to the list subject to asset freezes and visa bans, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has said. She said the action had been agreed in light of the latest events, as she also urged Russia to pull back its troops from the Ukrainian border.

Last August, Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison after she was found guilty of 20 offenses including wrongful possession and transmission of national defense information. Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington last week approved the findings and sentence given to Manning.

Bird flu detected in Japan 13 Apr 2014 Two chickens tested positive for avian influenza at a Japanese farm on Sunday, the Agriculture Ministry said. The deadly H5 virus was detected through genetic testing of six chickens at a farm in Kumamoto Prefecture where 1,100 chickens have died, according to the ministry.

 

Foreigner dies of MERS in Saudi Arabia 14 Apr 2014 A foreigner has died from MERS in the western Saudi city of Jeddah, where authorities have sought to calm fears over the spreading respiratory illness, the health ministry said Monday. Judge considers staying Ohio gay marriage ruling 14 Apr 2014 A federal judge who ordered Ohio to recognize the marriages of same-sex couples performed in other states says he's inclined to issue a stay of his decision pending appeal, meaning most gay couples living in the state would see no immediate tangible expansion of their rights. Cincinnati-based Judge Timothy Black ordered attorneys on both sides of the case to file their arguments over whether he should issue a stay no later than Tuesday afternoon.
