Steel workers strike continue on sixth day for implementation of labour laws
11 June 2014, New Delhi: Workers of Wazirpur hot rolling steel plants continued to strike work for the sixth day. It should be noted that despite there being a labour court adjoining the industrial area in Nimri colony, labour laws are being flouted openly here. In the Wazirpur Industrial area, there are about 600 factories for steel production. It is not uncommon for workers here to have their hands bruised or cut during work. They work in extremely inhuman conditions. This is how profit is being accumulated.
Office of Provident Fund is in Wazirpur itself. But hardly any worker receives the facility of Provident Fund. On 6th June, about 2000 workers rallied in the area and declared the beginning of their strike. Today, almost all steel line factories in Blocks A & B of the area remained shut. A peaceful rally was carried out, after which workers gathered in Raja Park for a meeting. About 1500 workers participated in this meeting.
Ambika, a worker and member of the Garam Rolla Mazdoor Ekta Samiti, addressing the meeting said that the prices of basic commodities have risen. Though wages are hiked on papers, but factory owners and contractors flout all labour laws. Workers slog for 12 hours every day for a monthly payment of Rs. 8000 only. Basic facilities of Provident Fund and ESI are not implemented. Labour Department is only playing the role of a silent spectator to the exploitation of workers. It is therefore that, the workers have decided that they will not remain silent anymore to this exploitation. That the workers will fight for their rights.
In order to weaken the strike, factory owners have registered a false FIR against the leaders of this protest. Sunny from Bigul Mazdoor Dasta remarked that Police, instead of favouring the factory owners, should first arrest the owners who are violating all norms. He also said that this strike is not just for the workers from hot roller steel plants, but also for the workers of cold roller steel plants, steel line, rickshaw pullers and others who are part of the industry in this area. This victory of this strike will result in improvement of conditions of all workers of this area. It will also be a guiding light for workers of other industries in other areas.
Raghuraj from the Garam Rolla Mazdoor Ekta Samiti, alerted workers of any rumours or of pimps, and called upon all of them to remain united.
The protest has received support from Karawal Nagar Mazdoor Union, Gurgaon Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti, People’s Union for Democratic Rights and Professor Mahapatra from Delhi University. The cultural front of Bigul Mazdoor Dasta also presented some songs of struggle.

श्रम-कानूनों को लागू करवाने के लिए वजीरपुर स्टील मज़दूरों की हड़ताल छठे दिन भी जारी!
11 जून। नई दिल्ली। वजीरपुर गरम रोला मज़दूरों ने अपनी हड़ताल छठे दिन भी जारी रखी। ज्ञात हो कि औद्योगिक इलाके से सटकर ही निमड़ी कॉलोनी में लेबर कोर्ट है जिसके बावजूद श्रम कानूनों का उल्लंघन धड़ल्ले से किया जाता है। वज़ीरपुर के औद्योगिक इलाके में स्टील का बड़ा उद्योग है जहाँ करीब 600 फैक्टरियां हैं जिनमे आये दिन मज़दूरों के हाथ कटते रहते हैं और कारखानों में बिल्कुल अमानवीय हालत में मज़दूर लगातार मालिकों का मुनाफा बढ़ाते रहते हैं। वजीरपुर में ही भविष्य निधि भवन का दफ्तर है लेकिन शायद ही किसी मज़दूर को पी.एफ. की सुविधा मिलती है। 6 जून को करीब 2000 मज़दूरों ने इलाके में व्यापक रैली निकाल कर अपनी हड़ताल की घोषणा की थी। आज वजीरपुर इंडस्ट्रियल इलाके के ए ब्लॉक, और बी ब्लॉक में जितनी भी स्टील लाईन फैक्टरियां थी उनमें से ज्यादातर बंद रहीं। विकराल रैली से घबराकर मालिकों ने पुलिस को आगे कर दिया परन्तु मज़दूर अपनी रैली शांतिपूर्वक तरीके से चलाते हुए राजा पार्क में पहुंचे जहां फिर से सभा की गयी। इस सभा में करीब 1500 मज़दूरों ने भागीदारी की।
सभा में बात रखते हुए गरम रोल्ला मज़दूर समिति के मज़दूर अम्बिका ने कहा कि आज महँगाई लगातारी बढ़ती जा रही है। हमारे आटा, दाल, सब्जी से लेकर मकान का किराया लगातार बढ़ रहा है। कहने को तो सरकार कागजों पर न्यूनतम वेतन में वृद्धि कर देती है लेकिन मालिक-ठेकेदाऱ सारे श्रम-कानूनों की धज्जियां उड़ाते हैं। मज़दूरों को 12-12 घण्टे काम के सिर्फ 7000-8000 रुपये दिये जाते हैं वही पीएफ व ईएसआई जैसी बुनियादी सुविधाएं किसी फैक्टरी में लागू नहीं होती हैं। श्रम-विभाग भी गूंगा-बहरा बनकर मजदूरों का शोषण देख रहा है इसलिए हम मज़दूरों ने तय किया है कि हम चुपचाप शोषण, अन्याय नहीं सहेंगे। बल्कि संघर्ष करेंगे अपने कानून हक लेंगे।
वहीं मालिकों ने हड़ताल तोड़ने के लिए मज़दूर नेताओं पर झूठी एफआईआर दर्ज करा दी है। बिगुल मज़दूर दस्ता के सनी ने मंच संचालन करते हुए कहा कि पुलिस यहां मालिकों की दलाली करने तो पहुँच गयी पर अगर वे सच में कानून लागू करना चाहते हैं तो पहले वे मालिकों को गिरफ्तार करें क्योंकि वे अपनी फैक्टरियों में श्रम कानूनो का धड़ल्ले से उल्लंघन करते हैं। साथ ही हमारी हड़ताल की जीत की उम्मीदें सिर्फ गरम रोला मज़दूर नहीं बल्कि ठंडा रोला, स्टील लाइन, रिक्शा के मज़दूर भी उम्मीद लगाए बैठे है, इस हड़ताल में जीत पूरे वज़ीरपुर के मज़दूरों की जीत होगी और यह अन्य मज़दूरों को भी संघर्ष के रास्ते पर उतरने का रास्ता दिखाएगी. उन्होंने आगे कहा की हड़ताल में सभी मज़दूर न सिर्फ पार्क में बैठे बल्कि मज़दूर वर्ग की इस पाठशाला का इस्तेमाल वर्ग चेतन होने के लिए करें। आगे मज़दूरों ने आम राय बनाकर हड़ताल के माँगपत्रक को अपनी आम राय से पास कराया।
गरम रोला मज़दूर समिति के रघुराज ने मज़दूरों को तमाम अफवाहों और दलालों से सावधान रहने को कहा तथा अपनी ताकत पर भरोसा रखने का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने इस हड़ताल में अन्य मज़दूरों को हड़ताल में शामिल करने का प्रस्ताव रखा। हड़ताल के समर्थन के लिए करावल नगर मज़दूर यूनियन, गुड़गांव मज़दूर संघर्ष समिति ,पीयूडीआर व दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के प्रोफसर प्रभुमहापात्रा भी शामिल हुए।
सभा के अंत में मज़दूरों ने हड़ताल को मजबूत बनाने व इसे जीतकर ही उठने की शपथ ली। बिगुल मज़दूर दस्ता की सांस्कृतिक टोली ने ,एक कथा सुनो रे लोगो, जारी है हड़ताल, यूनियन हमारी एकता गीत प्रस्तुत किये।
