LJP returns to the BJP fold
LJP returns to the BJP fold – Yet another opportunistic alliance
On February 27th, 2014, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) returned to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after a gap of 12 years. BJP and LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan sealed a seat-sharing pact in Bihar that will see Paswan’s group contesting seven Lok Sabha seats.
Ram Vilas Paswan after having distanced himself from NDA over 2002 Gujarat riots has been consistently critical of both BJP and Modi. A quick look at some of the stories reporting Paswan’s diatribe vis-a-vis Narendra Modi over the years would show the utter hypocrisy of Paswan’s decision to go back to the BJP-Modi fold.

Paswan's consistent rejection of Modi in 2011, 2012, 2013 shows what a hypocrite he is
Paswan’s consistent rejection of Modi in 2011, 2012, 2013 shows what a hypocrite he is
In 2011, Paswan said that Modi can never become the Prime Minister, he stated:
“People like Modi are indulging in dirty politics by holding these fasts. He has spent Rs50-100 crore. He and LK Advani who are accused of communalism would never become Prime Minister in this country. These people have no regard for millions of Indians who have to go on compulsory fast as they don’t get anything to eat,” Paswan said. Targeting Modi, Paswan said the Gujarat chief minister is aiming to become Prime Minister and trying to project a secular image by holding such “political dramas”.
In 2012, Paswan claimed that Modi’s role in the 2002 riots was crystal clear. He had stated:
Soon after the 2002 elections, Kodnani was included in the state government as a minister. This is a clear indication that Modi was supporting Kodnani’s activities during riots. During my tour through Gujarat I was quite shocked to notice that the dalits in the state are facing discrimination. People are migrating out of their villages owing to oppression at the hands of dominant communities.
Perhaps, Paswan ought to know that 4 dalit youth in Thangarh, Gujarat, were shot dead in cold blood by Gujarat Police and the Modi-led Government refused to arrest a single policeman till the victims moved the Gujarat High Court. Paswan’s decision to back Modi shows the little concern he has for the members of his own community.
As recently as November 6, 2013, Paswan had accused Modi of creating communal tension. Times of India reported:
Denouncing Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Bihar to meet the kin of Patna blasts’ victims, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Tuesday said it was aimed at creating communal tension in the state. He said the visit was an “attempt to derive political mileage out of the tragedy”.
“The ensuing Lok Sabha polls will be fought by the RSS on behalf of the BJP in the country,” he told journalists at his party’s office.
After calling Modi and BJP’s politics communal throughout the last 12 years, Paswan’s decision to strike an alliance with BJP led NDA would indeed be a darker shade of politics than even Narendra Modi’s politics. Paswan is now completely exposed and the Dalit’s of Bihar in particular should outrightly reject such rank opportunistic politicians.
