Congress names 58 candidates in 3rd list, suspense over Varanasi continues

New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday released its third list of 58 candidates for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. While the party didn't give ticket to Commonwealth Games scam accused Suresh Kalmadi, it remained silent on who will contest against Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi from Varanasi. Vishwajeet Kadam will contest from Pune, replacing Kalmadi.
The party released names for Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Sikkim, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan amongst other states. In Delhi, all the sitting MPs have given tickets. Kapil Sibal, two time Member of Parliament from Chandi Chowk, will contest from the same seat. He will be contesting against BJP's Harsh Vardhan and AAP's Ashutosh. Sandeep Dikshit will contest from East Delhi and Ajay Maken from New Delhi constituency.
Cricketer-turned-politician Mohammad Azharuddin has been fielded from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. He is the sitting MP from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. Sachin Pilot will contest from Ajmer and Chandresh Kumari from Jodhpur.
While the Congress didn't give ticket to Kalmadi, it remained silent on who will contest against BJP's prime ministerial candidate Modi from Varanasi.
In Chhattisgarh, former chief minister Ajit Jogi will contest from Mahasamund, while Phoolo Devi Netam will contest from Kanker. In Haryana, Rao Dharampal will contest from Gurgaon.
Two Maharashtra ministers Sanjay Deotale and Rajendra Gavit have been fielded from Chandrapur in Vidarbha region and Palghar in Konkan region. Paranjayaditya Sinh Parmar, son-in-law of Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh, has
been made a nominee from Panchmahal's seat in Gujarat.
The third list features two names from Arunachal Pradesh, two names from Chhattisgrah, five names from Delhi, two from Goa, eight names from Gujarat, three from Haryana, two from Jharkhand, two from Karnataka, three from Madhya Pradesh, four from Maharashtra, two for Odisha, 15 names from Rajasthan; and one name each from Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal and Daman & Diu.
So far, the Congress has declared the name of 318 candidates.
