"I went to the Election Commission and placed the party's views and they have said that they would give their opinion," he said.

BARASAT: A middle-aged Matua woman tried to immolate herself on VIP Road at Baguiati on Sunday afternoon. The Matuas were staging demonstration there demanding rehabilitation for the refugees who switched over to India post 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
The woman, a source said, poured kerosene on her and tried to set herself afire. "Police stopped and detained her. Later, she was released," said the source. Matuas were staging demonstration demanding Indian citizenship. While one of their groups blocked the airport-bound traffic on VIP Road for about an hour, another group blocked rail movement in Thakurnagar station on Sealdah-Bongaon section. They criticized the Trinamool government for their "inability to provide rehabilitation to the Matuas". They also blamed the BJP government for not granting citizenship status to the refugees as promised by Narendra Modi before the polls.
A group of Matuas in Thakurnagar has started hunger strike since November 27 pressing for their demands. They are being led by Subrata Thakur, the son of minister of state Manjul Krishna Thakur.

মতুয়াদের দিশা ও দশা
প্রবাদ আছে 'ডুবন্ত মানুষ বাঁচার জন্য খড়-কুটোও ধরে ভাসতে চায়।' যদিও তখন তার বোঝার ক্ষমতা থাকে যে, ঐভাবে ভেসে থাকা যায় না।
দেশ ভাগের বলি এই মতুয়া সম্প্রদায় কিন্তু তবুও ঐ খড়-কুটোর ভরসা করে বাঁচার জন্য আপ্রাণ চেষ্টা করেছে। যত সংখ্যক বেঁচে ফিরেছে। হয়তোঃ ততধিক ফিরতেও পারেনি। তবুও মানুষের ধর্মই হচ্ছে বেঁচে থাকার জন্য আপ্রাণ চেষ্টা করা। সংগ্রাম করা।
সেন রাজাদের কোপে পড়ে যারা নিজ ধর্ম(বৌদ্ধ ধম্ম) থেকে পতিত হয়েছিল। সেই পতিতদের উদ্ধারের কাজে লিপ্ত হন প্রায় পৌনে ২00 বছর আগে (১৮৩০সালে) এক অজ পাড়াগায়ের যুবক। তিনি তার উদ্ভাবনী শক্তি দিয়ে উপলব্ধি করেন সমাজের পিছিয়ে পড়া শ্রেনীর মানুষদের প্রতি উচ্চ শ্রেনীর মানুষদের পশুর মত ব্যবহার করার কারণ।
তাই তিনি ঘোষণা করেন- আমি বেদ-বিধি শৌচাচার মানিনা।
আর তোমরা –খাও বা না খাও সন্তানদের শিক্ষিত কর।
তোমরা- কোথায় ব্রাহ্মণ দেখ, কোথায় বৈষ্ণব ।
এরা- স্বার্থ বশে অর্থ লোভী যত ভন্ড সব ।।
আমার কাছে- মানুষে মানুষে কোন ভেদা ভেদ নেই।
তোমরা এই ভেদাভেদ ভুলে গিয়ে মানুষের প্রতি নিষ্ঠা রাখো।
তোমাদের কোন ভগবান নেই। যে তোমাদের উদ্ধার করবে, তাকেই শুধু ভগবান মনে করবে। অন্য কোন অলৌকিকতাকে নয়।
তোমাদের মুক্তি পাওয়ার জন্য কোন সাধন ভজনের দরকার নেই।
তোমরা অলস হয়ে না থেকে কর্ম কর। পতিত জমি আবাদ করে ফসল ফলাও। অর্থাৎ হাতে কাম কর। আর যে আদর্শ ও নিষেধাজ্ঞা আমি তোমাদের সুন্দর জীবন যাপনের জন্য পালন করতে বলছি, সে গুলোর নাম লও। অর্থাৎ এই গুলো নিজে পালন কর এবং জন-জন-বহুজন পর্যন্ত প্রসারিত কর।
আর তোমাদের অন্যকোন ধর্ম পালন করতে হবে না। আমি যেটা বলি ও করি তোমরা সেটা মেনে চল। তাহলে তোমরা সামাজিক পঙ্কিলতা থেকে মুক্ত হবে। আমি তোমাদের মুক্ত করব। আর তোমাদের সমস্ত বিড়ম্বনা কে ঘুচিয়ে প্রভাতের সূর্যকে উদ্ভাসিত করব। হ্যা, আমি হরিচাঁদ। আমি তোমাদের মুক্তির দিশারী।
আমার আদেশ- নিষেধ ও কর্ম কুশলতা আর নীতি বা আদর্শই তোমাদের সকলের মতবাদ হবে। যার নাম হবে মতুয়াবাদ । আর আমার এই মতবাদ পালনকারীর ধর্ম হবে "মতুয়া ধর্ম।"
আর একটা কথা আমি আমার জীবদ্দশায় তোমাদের জন্য সব কর্ম হয়তোঃ করে যেতে পারব না। তোমরা আমার সন্তান তুল্য। আমি তোমাদের পিতা তুল্য। সেই পিতার অধিকার নিয়ে আমি তোমাদের আদেশ দিচ্ছি- গুরুচাঁদ হবে তোমাদের নেতা। তার কর্মের মধ্য দিয়েই তোমরা আমার উপস্থিতি উপলব্ধি করতে পারবে।
তোমরা তোমাদের নেতাকে শ্রদ্ধা ও মান্য করবে। তাহলে তোমাদের কোন দিন কোন বিপর্যয়ের সম্মুখীন হ'তে হবে না।
হ্যাঁ, জনগণ কিন্তু হরিচাঁদ পরবর্তী পথ প্রদর্শক বা নেতাকে মেনে নিয়ে ছিল। আর এই জনগণের নেতা শুধু একটি মাত্র আজ্ঞা নিজের কাধে তুলে নিয়ে ছিলেন। সেটা হচ্ছে "শিক্ষা"। কারণ তিনি বুঝে ছিলেন যে, সমস্ত বন্ধ দরজার কপাট খুলে দিতে পারে এই একমাত্র 'চাবি'। যার নাম "শিক্ষা"।
এই চাবির প্রসারের জন্য তিনি কৌশলও করেছিলেন। যার সুফল হাতে হাতে মিলেছিল। তবে এই শিক্ষার চাবিকে ধারালো করার জন্য শান দেওয়ার কাজ করেছিলেন এক ভিন দেশী অষ্ট্রেলিয়ান মিশনারী। ডাক্তার সি. এস. মিড সাহেব। এক্ষেত্রে এই মিড সাহেবের অবদান কিন্তু গুরুচাঁদ ঠাকুরের তুলনায় কোন অংশে কম নয়। তাই এই শিক্ষার চাবিকে ধার দেওয়ার যন্ত্র হলেন মিড সাহেব। আর যন্ত্রী অর্থাৎ চালক হলেন গুরুচাঁদ ঠাকুর। এই দু'জনের বুদ্ধির তীক্ষ্ণতায় সমাজে শিক্ষার আলো ধীরে ধীরে প্রসারিত হয়ে চারিদিকে পঙ্কে কমল ফুটতে শুরু করল।
এই শিক্ষার ফল স্বরূপ চাকরী, ব্যাবসা ও সামাজিক আধিপত্ত্ব বিস্তার করল। আর সেই বিস্তার কিন্তু থেকে থাকেনি। সেটা দ্রুত প্রসারিত হতে থাকল। জনগণ খুঁজে পেল মানুষ হয়ে মানুষের মর্যাদা। অধিকার। প্রতিষ্ঠা।
কিন্তু এই এত ঐশ্বর্য্য যেন প্রকৃতির কাছে ভারসাম্যহীন হয়ে উঠল। প্রকৃতির শাসকরা মনে করল এভাবে চললে তো অচিরেই আমরা বিলুপ্ত হয়ে যাব। আমাদের অস্তিত্ব বলে কিছু থাকবেনা। কেউ আমাদের মর্যাদা দেবেনা। তাই এই ভুখন্ডকে দু'ভাগ না করলে আমাদের নাম নিশানা মিটে যাবে। এই ভাবনা থেকেই শুরু হোল এই প্রকৃতি প্রেমিক শাসকদের ছলা-কলা- কৌশল। শুরু হোল দাঙ্গা। শুরু হোল আপন জনদের মধ্যে ধর্মীয় হিংসার বীজ ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার কাজ। জন্ম নিল রাতারাতি মৌলবাদের।
কেউ বলল-ভারত ভাগ না হলেও চলবে। কিন্তু বাংলা ভাগ হওয়া চাই। কারণ বাংলা ভাগ না হলে আমরা এই প্রকৃতির ঘৃণ্য নীচ প্রাণীদের শাসন করতে পারব না।
কেউ বলল- অতকিছু জানিনা। আমরা আমাদের ধর্মীয় স্থান পাকিস্থান চাই।
আবার কেউ বলল- এসব কিছু আমি হতে দেবনা। এসব হতে হলে আমার মরা শরীরের উপর দিয়ে গিয়ে করতে হবে। যদিও এটা ছিল তাঁর লোক দেখানো খবরে ছাপানো গর্জন। কারণ তাঁরই উপস্থিতিতে তাঁরই সম্মতিতে পাশ হয় ১৯৪৬ সালে এই ভুখন্ড খন্ড-বিখন্ড করার বিল।
যার পরিণতি- দেশভাগ। ভারত ভাগ। বাংলা ভাগ এবং বাঙালি ভাগ।
সেই দেশভাগের আগুনে পুড়ে ছাই হয়ে গেল এক সময়ে অর্জিত সমস্ত অধিকার। পরিনত হ'ল আবার সহায় সম্বলহীন, ভীটে-মাটি ছাড়া, দেশ হারা, মাতৃভাষা হারা "উদ্বাস্তুতে"।
কাউকে ফেলে দেওয়া হল ঊড়িষ্যার কালা হান্ডিতে। কাউকে দন্ডকারণ্যের জঙ্গলে । কাউকে গড়চিরোলীর গভীর ঘন অরণ্যে। আবার কাউকে কালা পানি আন্দামানে। এইভাবে এক সময়ের একটা সংগঠিত উদিয়মান গোষ্ঠিকে ছুড়ে ফেলা হ'ল ভারতের বন-জঙ্গল-পাহাড় ও জলাশয়ে।

যদিও এই সংগ্রামী নেতা এই সহায়-সম্বলহীন মানুষদের অধীকার আদায়ের জন্য সারা জীবন সংগ্রাম করেগেছেন। কিন্তু তাঁর উপকার গ্রহন করেও তাঁর নিজের লোকেরাও তাঁকে চিনল না। বা তাঁর প্রতি ব্রাহ্মণী প্রচার মাধ্যমের অপপ্রচারই চিনতে দিল না।
তবুও ভারতের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে ছুড়ে ফেলে দেওয়া এই "উদ্বাস্তুরা" আবার বাঁচার স্বপ্ন দেখল। এই স্বপ্ন দেখার জন্য ডাক পড়ল 'মরিচ ঝাপি'তে । সেখানে যখন নিজেদের চেষ্টায় শ্বাস নেওয়ার কিছুটা উপক্রম হ'ল, তখন শুরু হ'ল আবার আক্রমণ। আবার বুলেটের গুলিতে ঝাঝরা করা হোল এদের। অগনিত নর-নারীকে বরণ করতে হ'ল অমানবিক অত্যাচার। অবশেষে মৃত্যু। এদের অপরাধ? এরা নীচু জাত। এদের কোন নেতা নেই। তাই এদের প্রতি ইচ্ছা খুশি অত্যাচার চালানো যেতে পারে।
তবুও এই মতুয়ারা, এই উদ্বাস্তুরা যেন দুর্বা ঘাসের জাত। এরা রৌদ্রে পুড়ে গেলেও শুকিয়ে গেলেও বর্ষার জল পেলে আবার জেগে ওঠে। এই জাতির জীনে মনে হয় সঞ্জীবনী শক্তি আছে। তাই একটু সুযোগ পেলেই এরা জেগে উঠতে চায়। যে জাগা দেখলে শাসক জাতির মনের মধ্যে ভুমিকম্প শুরু হয়ে যায়। তাই সেই ভুমিকম্পের বাণী শোনা গেল -মন্ডলরা জাগছে।
হ্যা, এই সঞ্জীবনী ধারক উদ্বাস্তুরা কিন্তু তাদের নেতা গুরুচাঁদের সংগ্রামী আহ্বানকে মনে রেখে দল গড়ার কাজে অগ্রসর হয়ে ছিল। যার প্রথম পদক্ষেপ ছিল সাংগঠণিকভাবে একত্রিত হওয়া। অনেকটা অগ্রসরও হয়েছিল বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে বিভিন্ন নামে।
এরা যুক্তিতে নয়, মনে প্রাণে ভালবাসে ও বিশ্বাস করে তাদের নেতার কোন বংশধর আবার এদের দিশা দেখানোর জন্য হাল ধরুক। হোক না সে নতুন প্রজন্মের। হোক না কিছুটা সময়ের সঙ্গে প্রগতিশীল। কিন্তু সেই আশায় এদের নেতার পরবর্তী প্রজন্ম কোন দিন সেই হাল ধরতে পারেনি বা ধরতে দেওয়া হয়নি ব্রাহ্মণী ষড়যন্ত্রে জন্য। তাদের পতাকাকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য।
এরা শুরু করল খেল। যে খেলার নাম ধর্মীয় খেল। এই খালায় এদের নেতার পরবর্তী বংশধরেরা পূর্ব-পুরুষের নাম ভাঙিয়ে শুরু করল দল গড়া নয় , দলে ভেড়ার কাজ। তাই ধাপে ধাপে এরা নাম লেখাতে শুরু করল –কংরেস, C.P.M, তৃণমূল ও B.J.P. তে।
এই মানুষদের নেতা বলেছিলেন- যার দল নেই, তার বল নেই ।
ভিন্ন ভিন্ন দল কেউ করো না গোসাই।।
আর পরবর্তী বংশধরেরা দেখালেন যে,
দল ছাড় , দল ধর, নিজ দল গড়ো না ভাই ।
অন্য দলে গিয়ে আমরা করব কামাই।।
তাই এরা এখন "মতুয়া" নয় । এরা মত্ - উহা (উহা- ওখানে অর্থাৎ কংগ্রেস, C.P.M., তৃণমুল, B.J.P.) তে পরিণত হয়েছে। এদের কম্পানির নাম হচ্ছে-মত্ উহা প্রডাকশন। প্রডাকশান স্থান- ঠাকুর নগর।
এদের অর্থাৎ পূর্বের এই মতুয়াদের পতিত পাবন বা পিতাকে নিয়ে তারক সরকার যে গ্রন্থ লিখেছিলেন যার নাম "শ্রীশ্রীহরি লীলামৃত"। সেই গ্রন্থ প্রকাশের শত বর্ষ বর্তমানে পূর্ণ হয়েছে।( ১ম প্রকাশ বাংলা ১৩২৩ সাল। ইংরাজী ১৯১৬ সাল।) যে গ্রন্থের বন্ধনে এখনও সেই পতিত পাবনের শল্তে মিট্ মিট্ করে জ্বলছে। সেই শল্তে তে যে আরো তেল দিয়ে প্রজ্জলিত করা দরকার। কিন্তু সেদিকে কারো ভ্রুপক্ষেপ নেই।
এরা হরি বোল বলে, ডাঙ্কা পিটিয়ে ছুটে চলেছে কোন দিশায় ? কে দেখাবে এদের দিশা? না কেউ নতুন করে জন্ম নেবে না এদের দিশা দেখানোর জন্য। এদের এই আকর গ্রন্থকেই দিশার উৎস মনে করে রাজ হংসের মত জল ফেলে দিয়ে চুষে নিতে হবে দুধকে। চলতে হবে এদের পতিত পাবন পিতা ও এদের শিক্ষা বিস্তারকারী নেতার পালিত ও নির্দেশিত মত ও পথে। তবেই এই সঞ্জীবনী শক্তি আবার পূনঃরায় জীবিত হবে। তবে তার জন্য এই বংশের পরবর্তী প্রজন্মের উপর ভরসা করা ছেড়ে দিতে হবে। তা না হ'লে মতুয়ার অস্তিত্বের নাম ও নিশানা থাকবে না । যেটা থাকবে সেটা হবে মরুভুমির মরিচাকা।
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today accused the BJP of pursuing political vendetta by "using" the CBI and said the party will hit the streets in protest if the investigating agency arrests Mukul Roy.
In wake of state minister Manjul Krishna Thakur joining the BJP, she said those who want to leave the party were free to go, but they should not back stab the party.
"Our leader (Mamata) has told us if they (CBI) arrest Mukul (Roy), lakhs of Mukuls will hit the streets in protest of the political vendetta that BJP is pursuing by using the CBI," a leader quoted the West Bengal chief minister as saying.
Mamata today held a closed door meeting with party leaders, which included chairmen, leaders, MLAs and MPs of those municipalities which would go to the polls this year.
"Our leader also said it has to be ensured that BJP losses its deposit in the Lok Sabha bypoll for Bongaon seat," the leader said.
The TMC leader also said Mamata entrusted state food supplies minister and party's North 24 Parganas district president to ensure a victory for the TMC candidate Mamata Bala Thakur from the Bongaon LS seat by a huge margin.
In a jolt to the Trinamool Congress ahead of the February 13 bye-elections, state minister Thakur yesterday quit the party, accusing it of functioning in a "whimsical" way, and joined the BJP.
After the meeting, Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee announced the name of Satyajit Biswas, a TMC youth leader of Nadia district, as the party's candidate for the Krishnaganj Assembly bye-election.

Picture by Amit Datta Calcutta, Jan. 17: RSS student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today opened its account in an academic institute in Calcutta, winning 14 of the 16 seats in the jute technology department of Calcutta University's Ballygunge Science College. The Trinamul Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), however, swept the elections at the college, taking its tally of class representatives to 89 from nine last year. The SFI, which controlled the student body, drew a blank. The ABVP also won six of the 18 seats in the Calcutta University-affiliated Kidderpore College, one more than the Trinamul student wing. The Trinamul union won uncontested in the majority of Ballygunge Science College's 112 seats and in 20 of the 26 Calcutta colleges where elections were held today. Asked how the ABVP won so convincingly in the jute technology department while it failed to put up candidates in the other departments, the outfit's state secretary, Subir Haldar, hinted at the cosmopolitan nature of the wing. "Many of the students are from outside Calcutta. We concentrated on the jute department as we noticed that its students were in our favour," he said. Although Haldar dodged questions on whether the Sangh outfit had enough organisational strength to contest in all colleges in Bengal, BJP sources said the poll results in the jute technology department and Kidderpore College indicated that a section of students supported the ABVP spontaneously. "The strong anti-Trinamul sentiment among these students is bringing them to the ABVP," a source said. The BJP sources said the results showed that the ABVP was "making its presence felt" on campuses much in the same way the party was inching closer to taking over the principal Opposition's space in Bengal. The ABVP's performance is significant in the light of the fact that polls will be held to the Calcutta Municipal Corporation and 99 other civic bodies across the state in the next few months. In districts like Birbhum, where the BJP has made rapid inroads, the ABVP could not file nominations in any college. Haldar said that in the 26 Calcutta colleges where elections were held, the ABVP managed to contest only in the jute department of Ballygunge Science College and Kidderpore College. "There was an attempt to prevent us from contesting. That's why the government did not start the online filing of nominations," he said. A Trinamul leader conceded that the ABVP's performance was "noteworthy". "Our party is in power. So it was expected that we would do well. But the ABVP's performance is noteworthy. They never had any presence on Calcutta's college campuses," the leader said. Education minister and Trinamul secretary-general Partha Chatterjee dismissed the possibility of any threat to the ruling establishment from the ABVP. "The ABVP won in the jute department at the cost of the SFI. Our position as No. 1 is unchallenged," he said. Madan Mitra predicts Mamata Banerjee rule for 20 years
Saradha chit fund accused and state transport minister Madan Mitra on Saturday said that chief minister Mamata Banerjee was going to rule Bengal for the next 20 years.
He was taken to SSKM Hospital from Alipore Jail for a routine checkup at around 11 am. "Mamata Banerjeewill be (in power) in our state for another 20 years," he said at the top of his voice while stepping out of the hospital after the checkup. He also claimed that the Trinamul Congress would win both Bangaon Lok Sabha and Krishnaganj Assembly bypolls with even bigger margins than before.
"Mamata Banerjee will remain the last word in the state for the next 20 years," he added.
The medical board examined him thoroughly and found him fit. He was therefore taken back to the jail. On Friday, Alipore court had again rejected his bail plea and extended his judicial custody till January 30.
Even on Friday afternoon while leaving Alipore court, Mitra had claimed that Trinamul Congress would continue to rule and fight. "Mamata Banerjee zindabad," he had shouted.
However, on Saturday he went even further and made a prediction which would certainly come as music to Ms Banerjee's ears.
After his arrest in December, Ms Banerjee had extended full support to Mitra and even refused to accept his resignation as transport minister. Ms Banerjee even participated in street protests against his arrest which she alleged was BJP's political vendetta. "Madan da is a staunch Mamata loyalist and by making this comment, he sought to reaffirm his loyalty and at the same time send a message to Didi reassuring her that Saradha scam notwithstanding, she would remain in power for two decades," a Trinamul Congress MLA said.

Meanwhile, a PIL was filed in Calcutta high court seeking chief justice Manjula Chellur's intervention to stop the bedlam which Trinamul Congress workers and his supporters create whenever Mitra is produced in Alipore court. Apparently shocked by the unruly behaviour of Mitra's supporters in the court premises on Friday, Biplab Kumar Chowdhury prayed for in-camera hearing of Mitra's case. Usually, in-camera hearings are conducted in sensitive cases like rapes.
